Nokia buying Dopplr, can't decide if that's good or bad (for myself that is. For Dopplr it's great obviously :)

Didn’t they buy Plazes? How did that go?

But Plazes wasn't very good to begin with. I really, really tried to like it... but no.

Dopplr, on the other hand, is very, very likable.

Apparently it might be another dodgy TechCrunch rumour.

Nooo! I only just started using Dopplr (especially their Social Atlas app for the iPhone) and now it's going to be ruined.

Only link I've found is: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/09/23/nokia-to-acqure-uk-startup-dopplr/

No independent confirmation so it might not be true.

@adewale: Via @bfirsh on Twitter I got the following message: @lemonad According to @mattb, it's completely fabricated! Another dodgy techcrunch rumour... #techcrunchfail

Not sure what to believe now.

i could see this as a potential deal, Nokia wants/needs Software & Services people, and one way to get them quickly is to buy their company (ref: Google-Jaiku example ;)

I the only thing i saw on Twitter was a 5 pages of the same message, mostly linking to the TC article, and some links to a GigaOm article that links back to the TC one. Looks like we will have to wait until tomorrow for the facts.

Plazes was flopping around at the end there, dropping stuf that worked, trying all sorts of different things, but i guess that location is just not a strong enough social object to power an entire service.
